Trip Leader

Sophie Halliday

Director of Global Leadership Center

Sophie Halliday is Director of the Global Leadership Center at St. Andrew’s Schools in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. In her nearly two decades in education, Sophie has taught students of all ages, from elementary school through college. Her responsibilities include the development and articulation of The Priory's global leadership program that fosters curious, compassionate, and courageous people who aspire to contribute their gifts and talents to make this world a better place. She has coordinated and served as a chaperone on multiple student trips to domestic and international destinations and enjoys the transformational impact that a well-crafted travel experience can have on young people. She holds two Bachelor’s Degrees in Political Science and Economics from the University of Washington and a Master’s Degree in Politics from Princeton University.

Take a deeper look into Fiji’s marine ecosystem and the impact climate change has on this fragile habitat and the communities that rely on it. Learn about the various strategies in place to protect, conserve, and restore Fiji’s marine environment. When not participating in marine service or supporting local women, relax and enjoy island life and get to know Fijian culture by visiting the nearby village of Somosomo on Naviti Island in the pristine Yasawa Islands.

NOTE: If you are interested in applying for St. Andrew’s travel grant funding, please see Ms.Watts or Ms. Halliday for the application.

Carry-On Luggage

A small backpack is the best carry-on bag – it can double as a day-pack once you arrive!

  • Passport and Wallet (Travel Wallet that can be hidden under clothing is a good idea)
  • Photo Copy of Passport (2 additional photocopies should be carried in checked luggage)
  • Make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months from your date of departure!
  • Sunglasses
  • Journal and Pens
  • One change of clothes

Checked Luggage

A medium sized duffel bag or large backpack work best. Wheeled bags are OK as long as they are medium sized and can easily be carried like a duffle over rough terrain.
